South Tyrol Dolomites
The name “Dolomites” derives from the French scientist’s Déodat Tancrède Gratet de Dolomieu (1750 - 1801) family name. He was the first scholar to study these mountains chemical composition, based on calcium carbonate, magnesium and bicarbonates. These rocks make up the Dolomites walls and mountains massifs, famous for being the “most beautiful mountains in the world”, thanks to their particular coral hues at dawn and dusk. These mountains are famous also thanks to the beauty of their woods, the rich flora and fauna and their uncontaminated nature; in fact they’ve been declared “World Cultural Heritage” by the UNESCO in 2009. Beyond offering breath-taking landscapes, the Dolomites are the meeting point of the Italian, German and Ladin cultures, everyone with its own culture, history and traditions!
Shops and restaurants for every taste
Guests have many discos, cafés and bars at their disposal in winter; it’s possible to find many elegant shops and boutiques in the South Tyrol ski resorts! An example are sport articles shops or wood-carving workshops; an example is the famous Val Gardena, whose skilled craftsmen worked even in Russia and Argentina! In the wood-carving workshops it’s possible to see the artists working and even to buy household objects, toys, small pieces of furniture, etc. This is one of the reasons why Val Gardena is a very popular mountain resort in Italy and Europe …not just because of its ski runs!
